OCICATS-WILD APPEARANCE-GENTLE NATURE
The Ocicat is a still-rare breed in Australia. The breed was developed in the USA by interbreeding of the Abyssinian, Siamese and American Shorthair. The breeding produced a stunningly spotted, all domestic cat of docile temperament and loving nature, resembling the extinct Egyptian Spotted Fishing Cat of ancient Egypt.
The Ocicat is a large and graceful cat with a short sleek coat. They emulate the cats of the wild in looks and movement.
The Ocicat is intelligent and dog-like. They are loyal and easily trained to follow household rules. Many will fetch and walk on a leash. They are highly adaptable to other pets and are suitable for young active families or sedate older households.
The spectacular spots form a pattern which includes an intricate "M" on the forehead, with markings extending up over the head between the ears and breaking into small spots on the lower neck and shoulders. Mascara markings are found around the eyes and on the cheeks. Rows of round spots run along the spine from shoulder blades to tail.
Thumbprint spots appear on the sides of the torso with the best spotted patterns depicting a bullseye. Broken bracelets and/or spots appear on the lower legs and throat.
There are twelve accepted Ocicat colours, tawny, chocolate, cinnamon, blue, lavender, fawn, with colours repeated with a silver background.
Wild in appearance and gentle in nature, the Ocicat provides an opportunity for you to add an exotic cat to your home without destroying a truly wild spotted cat.
Thank you for taking the time to consider an Ocicat as your new family companion.
